Knowledge Management means different things to every organization depending on several factors: the operational environment, age of the organization, stability of the work force, ability to adapt to new and changing technologies, the culture and structure of the organization, and the leadership focus. Because of these factors, this strategy focuses on supporting the knowledge environment instead of trying to define knowledge management. The knowledge environment is made up of an overall set of organizational activities that enable knowledge flow with the goal of improving individual and collective learning, achieving high performance, promoting faster innovation and shortening the decision cycle from the Senior Leaders to the Soldiers fighting on the battlefield. By focusing on the components that make up the knowledge environment the ability to influence change happens at a faster pace than normal. The components that make up this environment are people, processes, technology, culture, structure and content.
