THE CURING OF CONCRETE PAVEMENT SLABS IN HOT WEATHER

A series of 28 slabs, each 1 m square and 250 mm thick, was cast on warm sunny days to determine the temperature variations in concrete that occur when the exothermic hydration reaction is stimulated by solar radiation incident on the concrete surface. The effect of the time of placing was investigated by casting slabs at different times during the day and the efficiency of a range of temperature control techniques was examined.
