Development of an Electronic System for Processing Variable-Area Magnetograms

This program was the continuation of a developmental effort in the handling and processing of recorded earth's magnetic field data. The desired output was intended to facilitate analysis of the solar-terrestrial relationships governing high magnetic activity in the earth's magnetic field associated with degraded electromagnetic propagation. The technical program described emphasizes the processing of magnetograms and the modifications to the electronic system developed for scanning and digitizing the film records. The quality of the magnetograms from the seven participating observatories had a bearing on the accuracy of output data; therefore, the quality of the magnetograms from each observatory is discussed.
