Photoelastic Unidirectional Stressmeter. A Borehole Rock Stress Gauge.

The development, calibration and use of a simple and robust, unidirectional borehole rock stressmeter is described. Readout is in terms of the photoelastic isochromatic fringe order in a glass cylinder built into the meter. The meter, which is preloaded in the borehole, is intended for both stress change and absolute rock stress measurements. (Author)
