Mechanical Behavior of Stranded Wire Ropes

摘要

Data is represented as a result of experimentation conducted on a variety of steel wire ropes. The specimen, varying in length, material, core, and geometry was subjected to a tensile load until total failure occured. Mechanical properties, such as load versus elongation, load versus change of diameter, initial breaking strength, reserve strength, modified Poisson's ratio, and modified modulus of elasticity are presented. Furthermore, initial results on detection of wire rope failure by means of monitoring stress wave emissions in the cable system are presented. (Author)
