An Approximate Calculation of the Distribution of Floating Potential on a Dielectric Body Immersed in a High Density Ionized Stream

The conservation equations for electrons and ions, together with the equation for voltage induced by charge separation are studied for the case of a singly ionized fluid flowing along the dielectric body. Since the electrons are more mobile than the ions, a floating potential is induced on the body to reduce electron flux and increase the ion flux. The net current flux to the wall is thus zero. It is shown that this potential varies along the length of the body because of the change in the charged particle flux across the fluid mechanical boundary layer. (Author)
