Aftershock Sequences and Crustal Structure in the Region of Greece

The report contains: Installation of six new stations in appropriate sites in the region of Greece. Study of the distribution in time and magnitude, the strain release characteristics and other properties of the aftershock and foreshock sequences (1) of all shocks of M 5.9 which have occurred in the region of Greece between 1911 and 1968, and (2) of smaller main shocks occurred between 1957 and 1967. Determination of some basic crustal and upper mantle properties in the region of Greece by using travel times of body waves and dispersion properties of surface waves. Investigation of the relation between the water loading of two artificial lakes in the region of Greece and the earthquake activity in foreshocks or swarm of shocks triggered by this anomalous change of fluid pressure. Investigation of seismicity and problems of geotectonics in the region of Greece in connection with results derived from the investigation of crustal structure and aftershock sequences. (Author)
