Urban air pollution modeling is playing an increasing role in air quality control programs. Plume models are at the heart of suggested implementation procedures for pollu¬tants such as S02 and particulates. Though plume models have been successful in the past, future applications will be more demanding with the necessity of incorporating the effects of photochemical reactions, complex time-varying meteorological conditions, and terrain and interactions at the boundary in order to simulate typical conditions encountered in photo¬chemical smog.nA new approach, the grid model of urban air pollution, is presented. In this model, the region of interest is divid¬ed into a grid of cells in which the Fickian diffusion equa¬tion of K-theory is solved including advection. The time-dependent solution of the diffusion equation is obtained numerically from difference equations.
