A new technique for examining potentiometers in the vicinity of the dead space and termination areas is introduced. The DEAD SPACE CHARACTERISTIC provides information which cannot be obtained from the FUNCTION CHARACTERISTIC and offers a superior means of identifying certain types of degradation. (A THOR)
