Antiferromagnetic Resonance Measurements in Europium Telluride

The antiferromagnetic resonance in europium telluride was measured on single crystals as a function of crystallographic direction. The measurements were made at the frequencies 9, 18, and 24 GHz at 1.17K. The resonance experiments have shown that the order in EuTe is of the easy plane type with a large anisotropy energy causing the direction to be a hard direction and the (111) plane to be an easy plane. The resonance equations for a fcc type II antiferromagnet are derived from the free energy equation. The line width as a function of temperature has also been measured in both the paramagnetic and antiferromagnetic regions. The results are similar to those obtained on other antiferromagnets showing a strong maximum in the vicinity of the ordering temperature. (Author)
