Instructions for Determining the Cohesive Strength of Frozen Soil

The cohensive strength of frozen soil is the strength of interaction between the different parts of frozen soil and the resistance to breaking which it puts up. In general these forces are caused by cementing action of ice, and also to a certain extent by the forces of molecular bonds of unfrozen water and mineral parts of the soil. Most significant is the strength of the cementing ice, which principally conditions the nature of the cohensive strength of frozen soil. (Author)
