The purpose of the investigation was to find the minimum period that a castrated, male, angora goat must be quarantined, after the stress of shipment, before its blood cell values become stabilized. A group of 125 goats was divided into five groups of 25 goats each, and blood samples were taken at intervals that varied for each group throughout quarantine. Comparison of samples showed that hemoglobin and hematocrit values and total and differential white blood cell counts (except for basophils and eosinophils) were within normal limits and stabilized after one week of quarantine in our facility. Therefore, blood samples obtained before this time may be misleading. (Author)
