Design Features of Advanced Scanning Sonars Based on Modulation Scanning

The performance requirements of an 'ideal' scanning sonar are discussed and the general approach outlined of incorporating these requirements in the design of the first advanced scanning sonar based on multistage modulation scanning. The electronic implementation is discussed and circuit arrangements described schematically. Numerous photographic records are presented, demonstrating the electronic overall performance achieved with this equipment. (Author)
