摘要

It is noteworthy that one of the major technical problems of that time — dealing with lean sulfur dioxide streams too dilute to be used directly in manufacture of sulfuric acid — is still the major technical problem today.nThe history of the development of zinc ore roasting is closely as¬sociated with both air pollution problems and the development of the chem¬ical industry with its attendant demand for sulfuric acid (13C).nThere is precedent for control of all the general types of sulfur oxide emissions from smelters, including lean streams. The principal barrier to control has been economic rather than technical. Technically feasible methods for control have existed for years, and have been applied when the air pollution problems have been sufficiently critical to out¬weigh the normal economic considerations.
