Studies on Pollutants and Pollution Levels in Some of the Industrial and Urban Areas of Japan

The measures are quite stringent as compared with other world standards. The authors monitoring and analyses of ambient air pollutants showed that the sulphur oxides concentration in the Tokyo Megalopolis, Osaka Metropolis, Kawasaki Industrial belt and the Yokkaichi Petrochemical Complex were lower than those of the United States, United Kingdom and West Germany. The concentration of particulates, however, reach levels that are very much higher than those of the aforementioned countries.nAt a time when scientific facts and date show the toxicological effects of particulates and enhance the beliefs and theories put for-ward by most of the world famous investigators and researchers, the Japanese legislators have not taken into account the quantitative presence of particulate matter in the stipulation of ambient air quality standards.
