An analysis is presented, using concentric coupled helices with a gyromagnetic material (ferrite) magnetized transverse to the direction of propagation and located inside the inner helix. The field theory approach is used in treating the problem and the results are expressed as slow-wave solutions. Qualitative and quantitative results are presented in the form of equations and graphs. Maxwell's equations are solved subject to the boundary conditions of helically conducting cylindrical sheaths. The electromagnetic (EM) field equations and coefficients, transcendental equation and impedances are given. Qualitative results in the form of graphs illustrate wave propagation and impedance characteristics, resonance and nonreciprocal effects, and electric field configurations for typical values of the ferrite parameters. Some important aspects of ferrite are pointed out which illustrate the use of gyromagnetic materials in traveling-wave tubes. (Author)
