摘要

The study examines the effect of infusions of viable E5 COLI INTO 8 OF THE 14 RHESUS MONKEYS. Hematocrits of E. coli and control monkeys wee not significantly different. Increased blood lactate was associated with metabolic acidosis and tachypnea. Increased arteriovenous differences of oxygen saturation suggested there was not shunting of blood away from systemic capillary beds. Marked decreases in frequency and amplitude of cerebrocortical activity were noted as the aortic pressure declined below 30 mm Hg. Pulmonary edema was seen in both E. coli and control monkeys. Although lungs of control animals showed less severe morphologic changes. Cerebrocortical neurons of both groups appeared normal, however, paerivascular astrocytes of shocked monkeys were swollen. The wet/dry weight ratio of the liver of shocked monkeys was greater than of controls, but this was not significant for the other organs studied. (Author)
