This program is developing a universal type of backshell hardware for electrical connectors, to interface both standard and MMC-developed extra flexible cables. Results to date include a more effective EMI shield termination technique, combined sheath termination and environmental sealing methods, and conductor clamps to transfer strain from the cable directly to the backshell instead of to the connector pins. Initial tests of prototype hardware have indicated areas requiring further investigation. (Author)
