摘要

Propagation characteristics of ELF waves in interplanetary space between the sun and the bow-shock of the magnetosphere are considered for parallel propagation. It is shown that only the right hand circularly polarized transverse wave and the longitudinal ion acoustic wave can propagate during normal quiescent conditions. However,damping is sufficiently high to make it unlikely that waves will be detected in the vicinity of the earth at any appreciable distance. For perpendicular propagation both 'ordinary'and 'extraordinary'modes are considered. (Author)
