An integrated visual aids control and status monitoring system was installed to remotely control and monitor visual aids at the Federal Aviation Administration test facilities. The central station controls and monitors nine remote stations,with the capability of expanding to 90remote stations. The remote stations utilize one of the three selected modes of communications: three operate on two-way FM radio,three operate on voice grade telephone lines,and three operate on power-line carrier equipment. The single central station can communicate with each remote station on its specific mode of communication. System and message security is designed to provent response to erroneous commands and spurious status signals. The central station initiates both visual and audible alarms in the event of uncommanded device changes,communications failure,and power failure. Each remote station has a battery backup to permit power failure message transmission. The system is designed to provide reliable and secure remote control of visual aids. (Author)
