Instrumentation and Techniques for Infrared Nondestructive Testing Applications.

摘要

Infrared nondestructive testing (IRNDT) techniques and instrumentation were used to successfully detect surface and near-surface flaws in circular and flat aluminum samples. A continuous wave CO2laser was employed to inject large amounts of thermal energy into appropriate specimens. The surface of each specimen was scanned with an infrared radiometer to detect surface thermal anomalies that are indicative of surface and near-surface flaws. In addition, a miniaturized,high-speed,scanning infrared radiometer was designed and constructed for the inspection of the interior surfaces of large gun tubes and recoil cylinders (75mm or larger). The instrumentation and the techniques developed are anticipated to have wide application to many problems,such as the detection of cracks,voids,and inclusions in gun tubes,projectiles,recoil mechanisms,and aircraft components.
