New commercially available amine curatives for castable polyether urethane elastomers were evaluated to extend pot life and-or develop a liquid curative. Efforts to develop a liquid amine curative were unsuccessful, but Curalon L was effective as a pot-life extender. Because of the excellent properties obtained with Adiprene L-315 and LD-955, these polymers were chosen for prototype fabrication of M16 Rifle butt pads and artillery handwheels. Wing Stay T, carbon black, iron oxide, and titanium dioxide were effective in providing protection against ultraviolet radiation in the Adiprene type polymers. Several other liquid polymers were evaluated to determine their process capability and obtainable properties. Not any of these provided adequate physical properties to warrant further detailed investigation. (Author)
