Fracture of Bone Materials in Compression at Temperatures between minus 200 and plus 200C.

Recent studies of bone materials have suggested that the fracture behaviour is sensitively dependent on specimen orientation, microstructure, the presence of external notches, temperature and the deformation rate imposed. The deformation properties of bone have been likened to those expected of composite materials. This report provides further information about the strength of bone and helps to define the criteria which must be satisfied by theoretical models of the mechanical properties.
