Military Specification, Optical Systems and Components for Infrared Applications. Addendum to Military Specification, MIL-0-13830

The addendum extends MIL-0-13830, 'General Specification Governing the Manufacture, Assembly and Inspection of Optical Components for Fire Control Instruments,' to include infrared applications. It will require that the designer specify functional requirements and functional tests based on the operational spectral band for both quality (material and surface) and geometrical accuracy of optical systems and components used in the infrared spectral region. Particular defects, such as digs and scratches, are not to be specified except where the defects contribute a direct functional problem. Emphasis shall be given to using the direct functional quality requirements such as veiling glare. This addendum may be specified as an option for visual and ultraviolet applications instead of MIL-0-13830. The infrared spectral region shall begin at 0.70 micrometers for purposes of this document.
