The Effects of Tape Recorder Equalization Techniques on Attainable Bit Error Probability

The effects of tape recorder equalization techniques on digital communication are analyzed. The principal performance indicator is attainable bit error probability. A very general linear analytical model is presented and analyzed by conventional whitening filter techniques. An asymptotic predetection recording PCM/FM case is analyzed. The results show a clear superiority of prerecord equalization over the conventional post record equalization method. (Author)
