The report describes a value-engineering study conducted on both reed-and modulating-type fluidic power supplies. Although these power supplies have several applications,their application in the high-performance,point-detonating (HP-PD) fuze was chosen to constrain the study with regard to performance,use,and procurement. The results of this VE study show that the modulating-type power supply,using molded plastic body parts,is the most promising alternative for future production emphasis. Estimated procurement costs for this design have been reduced approximately 51percent as a result of this study. The modulating-type supply is likely to cost $1.00or less perunit when procured in quantities of 1-million units. In quantities of 10-million units, a unit cost of $0.50or less is possible. (Author)
