Based on a more precise treatment of the theory of hot-wire anememetry the customary King's law relationship is questionable for practical hot-wire measurements. King's law may be extended theoretically by an additional velocity dependent term,which would take care of all influences appearing with practical hot-wires (non uniform temperature and non uniform wire thickness over the wire length as well as influences from the coating materials on the wire ends and from the supporting prongs.) A calibration method for hot-wire probes has been developed,and calibration data obtained with the new method have been sifted to find the true exponent n relationships. Correlation among the seemingly contradictory results obtained for the exponent n by different authors is examined.
