Penicillin versus Tetracycline in the Treatment of Louse-Borne Relapsing Fever. A Preliminary Report.

Twenty-five patients with louse-borne relapsing fever were treated with either a single parenteral injection of tetracycline hydrochloride or penicillin aluminium monostearate. The Jarisch-Herxheimer like reaction accompanying therapy was less severe in the penicillin treated patients. There were no deaths and no relapse noted in either treatment group. Penicillin aluminium monostearate is recommended for the treatment of this disease. (Author)
