Research on Boron Filament/Metal Matrix Composite Materials.

摘要

This research program was concerned with a study of the boron filament/metal matrix composites. Different metal matrix candidates were examined and these included pure aluminum,aluminum alloy 40E,copper and nickel. The principal fabrication methods examined were vacuum casting,liquid infiltration and powder metallurgical hot pressing. These fabrication methods were used to manufacture composites whose fiber orientations included continuous aligned,discontinuous (1/d greater or equal to 100) and discontinuous random configurations with boron filaments volume fraction of 10-15, 30, 45,and 60percent.
