Weathering Properties of Crosslinked Polyethylene

Samples of crosslinked polyethylene were subjected to artificial weathering in an apparatus equipped with a sunshine carbon arc radiation source. Changes in tensile properties and water vapor transmission rates were observed. The material tested is used in a reuseable container being investigated for Air Force use. The container is presently being used by commercial airlines and conforms to the requirements set forth in specification ATA 300 of the Air Transport Association. Three colors (green, natural, and white) was tested. (Author)
