Advanced Multiplatform Navy Computer System (AMNCS): Initial Architecture Study and Technology Organization Projection for 1980-1990

With the objective of providing guidance to the Advanced Multiplatform Navy Computer System (AMNCS), this report identifies a set of common functions for tactical data systems; identifies major common subfunctions for the functions and computational functions for the subfunctions; discusses characteristics of Navy computing architecture; selects a set of examples of candidate computing systems; projects hardware and software technologies and computer organization and systems of 1980 - 1990; and makes specific recommendations for the future development of AMNCS.
