Survey of Techniques Used in Display of Sequential Images Received from Geostationary Satellites

Cloud console devices used in the display of meteorological satellite imagery are described. Details are given of the NOAA/NESS, Navy, Stanford Research Institue and University of Wisconsin systems. A discussion is included of meteorological applications of cloud console products such as identification of synoptic features and measurement of cloud motion. Design elements of current systems that are needed for a proposed ASL cloud console system for the Direct Readout Ground Station (DRGS) of SMS-GOES are enumerated. (Author)
