Renal Function in the Hypothermic Perfused State.

The hypothermic perfused kidney does function. Clearance values for creatinine and PAH in the hypothermic kidney are directly correlated with urine flow. Hypothermia probably produces a reversible defect in the renal tubule which results in reabsorption of substances such as PAH and creatinine. Tubular function can be estimated qualitatively by changes in the ration of C(PAH)/C(CR) which is less dependent on urine flow than is C(PAH) alone. (Author)
