A Study of Plate-Slap Technology. Part I. A Critical Evaluation of Plate-Slap Technology.

摘要

State of the art practices of plate-slap technology pertinent to characterization and design use of anisotropic composite-materials for re-entry vehicle thermal-protection systems,were documented and evaluated. The program plan,results,and conclusions are summarized herein. Basic characterization data,high stress-amplitude constitutive data obtained by gas-gun testing,and short load-duration failure data obtained by exploding-foil testing are all presented for the study material, a quartz-cloth reinforced-phenolic. Methods of data reduction are described. The results of the proof-testing conducted to provide a check on the validity of the design use of the data are presented,and the overall technology is evaluated. (Author)
