Dispersed Phase Strengthened Beryllium Alloys for High Strength Wire.

Process and alloy development was conducted to find a suitable material for dispersion strengthened .005ins. diameter beryllium wire,having a room temperature ultimate tensile strength greater than 300,000psi. Atomization rather than chill casting an alloy melt was found to be the best method to produce the required fine beryllide dispersions in the beryllium matrix. Nineteen potential alloy systems were investigated. (Author)
