A Knudsen cell assembly that is capable of operating up to 2750K for use with the high-resolution Herzog-Mattauch type double-focusing mass spectrometer is described. The design of this Knudsen cell assembly is unusual,because the effusin orifice is situated on the curved side of the cylindrical cell and produces a molecular beam coaxial with the ion beam. The performance of this device was checked by measuring the heats of vaporization of silver and carbon. The third-law and second-law heat of sublimation of silver was measured. Both of these heats of sublimation are in agreement with those reported in the literature. (Author)
