Simple equations are presented for errors in determinations of residual stresses due to horizontal beam divergences, sample displacement from the 2 theta axis, and displacement of the axis of sample tilt from the 2 theta axis. Under good conditions, for steels, the error to be expected is plus or minus 1,500 psi. (Author)
