The kinematics of dislocated continua are used to develop correspondences between simple models of metals plastically deforming under multiaxial states of stress. Interpretations are offered to various material parameters and thermodynamic restrictions appearing in phenomenological plasticity theory. Thermally activated flow analysis is developed in a form suitable for use in analysis of plastic deformation under multiaxial states of stress. The results offer promise of allowing dislocation theoretic concepts to be incorporated into more realistic constitutive laws for use in continuum plasticity theories. (Author)
