摘要

An in-flight research program on the handling qualities of Class III airplanes in the landing approach was conducted using the USAF/CAL Total In-Flight Simulator (TIFS) airplane. The Phase I research program discussed in the report consisted of an investigation of lateral-directional handling qualities. A baseline configuration was defined by a set of stability and control derivatives provided by the Air Force. The experiment was based on the evaluation of this configuration and other configurations defined by changes in stability and control derivatives from the baseline values. Seventeen different configurations were evaluated utilizing 3 different pilots. A total of thirty six evaluations was performed.
