Glass Filled Thermoplastics - Effects of Glass Variables and Processing on Properties

The effect of glass variables, diameter, size content, etc, on the mechanical properties of glass filled materials was determined in polypropylene, polystyrene and nylon 6. The combined effects of silane coupling agents and injection moulding machine conditions was also investigated with glass/polymer dry blends using the barrel of the moulding machine as a mixer. The silanes giving optimum properties in polypropylene and nylon 6 were identified and certain important machine conditions specified. (Author)
