Ventilating Backpack for the Suit System, Toxicological Protective Micro-Climate Controlled (CB Protective System for EOD Personnel)

A ventilating backpack assembly was designed to provide 18 cfm of filtered air to a specially designed military clothing ensemble to provide explosive ordnance personnel with protection from CB agents. This filtered air provides breathing air and body ventilation while a suited individual performs various tasks in a toxic (CB) environment. The report discusses the various improvements and innovations which were incorporated in the final production model. The project consisted of four phases; a product engineering study, production of ten prototype units, environmental testing and engineering field support, and the production of twenty-five units with extra battery packs.
