Simple X-Ray Bandpass Filters for Nanosecond Resolution of Plasma Spectra

摘要

A novel type of bandpass filter for x rays has been developed for use in studies of hot transient plasmas. Suitable bandpass intervals are defined by transmission through thin K-edge filters and absorption in matched thicknesses of scintillator material. The scintillator light signals are detected by either a set of photomultipliers or an image-converter camera, operated in the streak mode. Filters of Mg, Al, Cl, and Ti cover the 1- to 5-keV photon energy range and are useful with plasmas that have temperatures of 0.2 to 2.0 keV. (Author)
