Deformation-Mechanism Maps and the Creep of Tungsten Lamp Filaments

A crystalline solid can deform plastically in a number of ways. Deformation mechanism diagrams can be constructed which display the fields of stress and temperature in which a given mechanism is dominant, and the strain rate it yields. This report describes some refinements in the computation of the diagrams, and illustrates their use by means of a case-study: the creep of tungsten lamp filaments. (Author)
