The State Variable Approach to the Analysis of Selecting Digital Moving target indicators Filters

A brief introduction to the digital Moving-Target-Indicator problem is presented along with a description of the conventional filters most commonly used for this purpose. The idea of initialization is then introduced for use with step scan radars, and the recursively implemented filter is proposed as a leading candidate for the Moving-Target-Indicator role. The essential features of the state variable approach are discussed and several useful relationships are developed. These expressions are then employed in the analysis of a number of filters, and some conclusions are drawn regarding the applicability of the state variable approach. (Author)
