Investigation of Basic Creep Mechanisms of Titanium Alloys.

摘要

High temperature creep resistance of Ti-Zr-Si alloys was studied with the objective of identifying rate controlling creep mechanisms. To achieve this objective,microstructures were systematically altered by changing the Si distribution in a manner designed to suppress a specific creep mechanism. For each microstructure,the apparent activation energy and area was determined,together with the extent of grain boundary sliding. Results from this study have shown that the predominate creep strengthening mechanism at 538C (1000F) for Si bearing Ti alloys is a clustering of solute atoms on mobile dislocations. Direct evidence for this has been obtained by transmission electron microscopy. (Modified author abstract)
