Increase in Sidelobe Level Caused by Water Drops on an Antenna's Radome

The radome enclosing an antenna serves the primary purpose of providing a controlled environment for the antenna. Unfortunately, the accumulation of rain on the outer surface of the radome deteriorates the performance of the antenna. This technical note computes the expected increase in sidelobe level and reduction in gain assuming that spherical drops of water are located randomly on the surface of the radome. (Author)
