On the Dynamics of Dislocation Pinning During Dynamic Strain Aging

The recognized phenomena of dynamic strain aging are considered in terms of the dynamics of dislocation pinning by impurity atoms. It is assumed that dislocations become immobilized when their waiting time at a barrier, capable of being overcome with the aid of thermal activation, exceeds the time required to age or immobilize a dislocation. Qualitatively, it would appear that this hypothesis, originally proposed by McCormick to account for the temperature dependence of the initiation of serrations on a stress-strain curve, is basic to all DSA phenomena.
