摘要

Results of acoustic studies of the marine organisms of the sound scattering layers at the Bermuda Ocean Acre site are presented for the USNS SANDS' (T-AGOR-6) Cruises 9 and 10 in the spring and summer of 1970, respectively, and Cruise 12 in the late summer of 1971. On Cruises 9 and 10, reverberation was measured at 3.85, 13.5, and 15.5 kHz. On Cruise 12, frequency coverage was extended to include 1.3 and 5, 7, and 9 kHz. Upward-looking transducer-reflector systems operating at 1.3 and 3.85 kHz made it possible to survey in detail the upper 50 m of the water. This report presents the characteristics of the SSL in terms of scattering-strength-versus-depth profiles and integrated scattering strengths. Day-to-day variability and diurnal variations are considered and frequency dependence and seasonal effects are discussed. (Author)
