Absorption and Excretion of Griseofulvin Administered to Patients in Combination with Vegetable Oil.

The goal was to find the particular form of griseofulvin preparation which would provide highest absorption by the gastrointestinal tract when taken internally and thus would create the highest concentration of the antibiotic in the blood. A series of investigations was conducted which included study of the effect of fat (vegetable oil) on the blood-level concentration of griseofulvin in patients and, correspondingly, on the dynamics of excretion of the antibiotic by the kidneys. Determinations of griseofulvin concentration in the serum were carried out by the spectrofluorometric method, while determinations in the urine were made spectrophotometricaly.
