Regulation of Gradation Characteristics in Hydrotype Printing.

A procedure is proposed for the coloristic characteristics and classification of the dyes used in subtractive color mixing. Conditions were determined for the densitometry of monochromatic (single-color) samples which provided for them an objective graduation characteristic in accordance with visual perception. The authors determined the spectral, coloristic, and gradation characteristics of monochromatic prints obtained by hydrotype printing, from matrices dyed in 30 dyes. The authors conducted a coloristic classification of the tested dyes, dividing the dyes with uniform chromaticity into groups. Densitometers were fitted with specially selected filters that yielded curves of spectral sensitivity more selective than MacAdam's composition curves.
